Should I get eyelid surgery?

Eyelid surgery may be the right choice for you if:

• You struggle with droopy eyelids that make you look tired even when you’re fully rested.
• You have persistent puffy fat deposits or bags in your lower eyelids.
• You’re able to take the necessary time to recover—usually a week to 10 days away from work.
• You have realistic expectations for the results of your surgery.

How long does eyelid surgery take?

Eyelid surgery usually takes between 1 and 3 hours, depending on whether the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both are treated. You can choose to be placed under either local or general anesthesia as the procedure takes place.

Does insurance cover eyelid surgery?

Insurance typically only covers eyelid surgery if you can prove droopy upper eyelids are impairing your vision. If impaired vision is not a factor for you, your surgery will be considered a cosmetic procedure and will not be covered by insurance. You’ll need to check with your provider to determine your coverage.

What will my eyelid surgery scars look like?

Eyelid surgery scars are designed to be very small and well-hidden in the natural creases of the eyelids. While they may appear slightly raised and pink initially, they typically fade to thin, barely visible lines by about 6 months after your surgery.

Can I drive home after eyelid surgery?

You will need someone to drive you home after surgery. In addition to your eyes being sensitive and possibly covered with dressings, some remaining effects of your anesthetic or pain medications will impair your ability to drive safely. It’s best to ask a trusted friend or family member to drive you home that day. You should be able to drive again after about 24 hours.

How much does eyelid surgery cost?
